Charles Michael Charnes, 68, affectionately known to many as Mike, passed away at his home in Hernando, Mississippi, on May 22, 2026. Born on February 3, 1958, in Memphis, Tennessee, Mike lived a life marked by dedication to family, career, and the outdoors he loved so dearly.
A proud graduate of First Assembly Christian School in Memphis, Mike went on to build a successful career as a co-owner of ACC Rebuilders, INC. in Memphis, a position from which he retired with great respect from colleagues and community alike. His professional life was defined by hard work and integrity, qualities he carried through every aspect of his life.
Mike’s passions extended beyond his career. He was an avid outdoorsman who cherished hunting and fishing, with a particular fondness for duck hunting. His love for travel often took him to the beach, where he found joy in the beauty of nature and the company of loved ones. More than anything, Mike was known as a master of the grill, delighting friends and family alike with his cooking—an art he practiced with pride and joy.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Denise Charnes; his daughter April Pumphrey and her husband Tony; sisters Judy Jackson and Peggy Markle; brother Larry Charnes and his wife Frances; grandchildren Mason and Molly; and his mother and father-in-law, Buddy and Carol Malone. Mike also leaves behind his cousins, Ronnie and Madeline Charnes, who helped raise him after losing his parents at an early age. He leaves behind his friends Paul Bryant and Bubba Jones, who treasured his friendship and companionship.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy Charnes; his sister Birdie Montgomery; and his brother Clifford Charnes. Their memories live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Saturday May 30, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Brantley Phillips Funeral Home, located at 2470 Hwy 51 S, Hernando, MS 38632. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. at the same location, where family, friends, and all who were touched by Mike’s life are invited to gather, share memories, and honor his legacy.

He will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the profound impact he made on those around him. May he rest in peace.
