Cornelia Irene Morris

Cornelia Irene Morris, known to many as Irene, passed away on September 19, 2026, in Oxford, Mississippi, at the home of her nephew, Dan Hendrix. She was born on May 2, 1947, in Memphis, Tennessee.

Irene will be remembered for the quiet beauty she brought to everyday life. A graduate of Germantown High School, she devoted most of her life to being a homemaker, giving her time and care to the people and home she loved. She found joy in flowers and music, simple pleasures that reflected her gentle spirit and the warmth she shared with others.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Morris; her parents, Richard and Virginia Pierce; her brothers, Phillip Pierce and James “Buddy” Pierce; and her sister, Marie Dickens.

Irene leaves behind a family who will carry her memory forward with love. She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Laughter Acree, and Theresa’s husband, Steve; her son, Bubba Laughter, and his wife, Lori; her brother, William Pierce; her sisters, Neosa Rowland, Sue Rondeau and her husband, Tom, and Etta Smith and her husband, Howard; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Pierce. She is also lovingly remembered by her nephews, Dan Hendrix and Clifford Hutchison. Her memory will also be cherished by her grandchildren: Matt Acree; Lyndsey Lowrimore and her husband, Johnny; Ashley Laughter; Aly Laughter-McDowell and her husband, Kasey; and Winston Laughter, the father of her children.

A memorial gathering to honor Irene’s life will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Brantley Phillips Funeral Home, 2470 Hwy 51 S, Hernando, Mississippi 38632.

Irene’s life was one of devotion, love, and quiet grace. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
