Gwendolyn Sanders Savage

August 18, 1946 — February 6, 2026

Hernando, MS

Gwendolyn Sanders Savage, 79, fondly known as "Gwen," was born on August 18, 1946, in Humboldt, Tennessee. She lived a life full of love, devotion, and cherished memories until her passing on February 6, 2026, at Saint Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee as a result of her 4 1/2 year battle with leukemia.

Gwen's remarkable journey began with her education, which included graduating from Overton High School in Memphis, Tennessee, followed by her time at Memphis State University. Her professional career was multifaceted, spanning several roles that showcased her dedication and interpersonal skills. She spent a few years as an airline stewardess for Delta Air Lines  before transitioning into her dedicated position as a stay at home mom helping provide and care for her family. She later worked as a receptionist and billing clerk at the Wadsworth Clinic in Hernando, Mississippi, where she served until her retirement.

A beloved member of her community, Gwen had a profound appreciation for nature and beauty, which she expressed as a member of the Desoto County Women's Garden Club. She also loved dance, led aerobic classes for several years and acted in local plays with Kudzu Playhouse of Hernando. Gwen greatly enjoyed many years of traveling both internationally as well as across the country with her husband, friends and relatives. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her passions and profession, as she deeply loved her family, who were central to her life.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Ed Savage, and their daughters: Monica Winans (Patrick), and Stacy Michael (Josh), and their sons Scott Savage (Christine Perich-Raper) and Drew Savage. Gwen took immense joy in being a grandmother, known affectionately to her grandchildren as "Nana" and "Nanny" Audrey Savage (Garrett), Mia Savage, Olivia Winans, Claire Winans, Gwyneth Michael, Clay Michael, Sienna Michael, and Heidi Michael, as well as her great-granddaughter, Corrina Kutz.

Gwen is also survived by her sisters: Gail Douglas (Wayne), Mary Jane Winter (Don), Jean Ray (Mike), Suzane Russell, and Charlotte Pepin, who will carry on her memory with love and honor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Virginia Sanders, and her brother, Alan Sanders, whose absence is deeply felt by all who knew and loved Gwen.

Gwen's legacy of kindness, devotion to family, and community involvement will live on in the hearts of those she touched. A visitation will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Mass service at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, located at 545 E Commerce St, Hernando, MS. Interment will follow at Hernando Memorial Park Cemetery. We invite all who knew and loved Gwen to join in celebrating her incredible life.
