Jamie Whitworth Jones, of Hernando, Mississippi, passed away on October 9, 2026, at her home in Hernando. She was born on March 3, 1943, in Houston, Mississippi.
Jamie grew up in Calhoun City, Mississippi, where her warmth, talent, and spirit were recognized early. During her high school years, she received many honors, including president of her senior class, Miss Calhoun City High School, class favorite, friendliest, best all around, and most likely to be remembered. Those distinctions reflected the gracious and memorable way she moved through life and the lasting impression she made on others.
Education remained an important part of Jamie’s journey. She enrolled at Northwest Mississippi Community College, where she met Marshall Jones, the man who would become her husband. Their marriage of 64 years was a beautiful and enduring part of her life. She later attended Delta State before stepping away to raise their two children. In time, she returned to her studies and earned her degree in Elementary Education from Ole Miss, a meaningful accomplishment that reflected her determination and devotion to both family and learning.
Jamie went on to have a rewarding career as a teacher with Desoto County Schools. She gave of herself in the classroom with the same care and dedication that marked every part of her life. After retirement, she found great joy working in her yard and garden. She was also a wonderful cook who always enjoyed trying new recipes, sharing both her creativity and her love with those around her.
Music and faith were woven deeply into Jamie’s life. She had a great voice and grew up in the church singing in the choir. She also sang at other events, including the Mid-South Fair. She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church in Hernando, and her family takes comfort in knowing that she is at peace with her Lord and Savior. She will be deeply missed.
Jamie is survived by her beloved husband, Marshall Jones. She also leaves her daughter, Andrea Peragine, and Andrea’s husband, Alex, of Hernando, Mississippi; her son, Marshall Jones Jr. of Portugal; and her cherished grandchildren, Drew Miller, Will Miller, and K.J. Jones. She is also survived by her nephew, Michael White, and by her nieces, Tina Hughes and Debbie White. She leaves behind a family who loved her dearly and who will continue to carry her memory with gratitude and love.
She was preceded in death by her father, Sammie Theo Whitworth; her mother, Birdie Mae Hollis Whitworth; and her sister, Margaret Amago.
