Jeffery Charles Long

Jeffery Charles Long, fondly known as Jeff, passed away on July 1, 2026, at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven, Mississippi. Born on April 9, 1962, in Memphis, Tennessee, Jeff’s life was marked by his steadfast commitment to education, family, and his community.

A proud alumnus of Hernando High School, Jeff graduated with the class of 1981. He later continued his academic journey at Memphis State University, earning his Bachelor’s Degree. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a career dedicated to shaping young minds and fostering athletic excellence.

Jeff spent his professional life as a teacher and basketball coach at various schools throughout Desoto County. His influence extended beyond the classroom and the court, leaving an indelible mark on the countless students and athletes whose lives he touched with his mentorship, encouragement, and unwavering support.

He is mourned and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Terry Long, and his sons, Jeffery Long Jr. and his wife Tina and Carter Long and his wife Courtney, Mark Patrick, Luke Patrick and his wife Kayla and Ben Patrick. Jeff’s legacy further flourishes in his grandchildren—Emma, Caitlin, Cameron, and Scarlett all of whom brought immense joy and pride to his later years.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Theron E. Long; his mother, Sue Long; and his brother, Vince Long. Their memories remained close to his heart and inspired him throughout his life.

Family, friends, former students, and colleagues are invited to a Celebration of Life in honor of Jeffery Charles Long. The service will be held at Brantley Phillips Funeral Home, located at 2470 Hwy 51 S, Hernando, MS 38632, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m until a Celebration of Life Memorial Service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
