A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Jimmy served on various ships and traveled to significant locations such as The Solomon Islands and Guam. This educational foundation propelled him into a successful career in teaching, where he inspired countless students at Hernando High School. Jimmy dedicated many years to the Title One department as a superintendent, ultimately retiring from the board of education in 1987.

Beyond his professional achievements, Jimmy was an ardent lover of the outdoors, finding joy in fishing, watching the cows, and praying out loud. His gentle spirit and warmth will be remembered by those who knew him.

Jimmy is survived by his devoted daughter, Renee Holley and her husband Chad, along with their daughters: Lauren Butler and her husband Ben, Katelyn Dill and her husband Thomas, and Brittany Williams and her husband Hunter. His proud legacy continues through his grandchildren: Eli Butler, Michael Butler, Cooper Butler, and Esther Williams. He is also survived by his daughter, Sandra Stocks, and her husband Paul, and their sons Collin Stocks and his wife Shani Ulmer-Stocks, Timothy Stocks and his wife Elisabeth Manasanch, along with their daughter Nuria Manasanch Stocks. Additionally, he leaves behind his daughter Charlotte Burns and her husband Jerry, and their son Joshua Burns. The lives of his family extended further with the love of his late daughter Karen Ockershausen and her husband Charles and her sons Bryan and Brandon Johnson, daughter Jamie Cequera, and granddaughters Camila Cequera and Nicole Cequera. His niece, Beverly Bowen, along with several other nieces and nephews, will also cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Joyce Young, his daughter Karen Johnson-Ockershausen, his parents Maben and Carrie Farrish Young, and his siblings, Mary Elizabeth and Frank Young.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Military Honors memorial service at 1:00 PM at the Brantley Phillips Funeral Home, located at 2470 Hwy 51 S, Hernando, MS.
