John Allen Pickle, born on March 15, 1948, in Memphis, Tennessee, passed away on June 22, 2026, at Baptist Hospital in Memphis. He was 78 years old.
John’s life was a testament to honesty, hard work, and devotion to family and faith. A proud graduate of Messick High School in the class of 1967, John began building the foundation of character and integrity that would define him throughout his years. John was in the United States Navy Reserves and was a one of the founders of Walls Fire Department as well as a member of Harmontown Fire Department later on.
Following his military service, John joined Caterpillar INC. in Memphis, Tennessee, where he dedicated many years as a Warehouse Associate until his well-earned retirement. Those who worked with John respected his earnestness and his unfailing sense of responsibility, qualities reflected in every aspect of his life.
John cared deeply for his family. He cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always offering them steadfast love and support. Family meant everything to him, and his home was often filled with laughter, playful stories, and cherished memories.
Throughout his life, John enjoyed playing sports and he maintained a lifelong love for hiking, fishing, Woodworking, running and especially spending time at Sardis Lake. The peace he found in nature was matched only by the joy he felt when surrounded by loved ones.
Above all, John was a man of truth. Known by all for his very truthful nature, he believed in honesty in word and deed, a trait that inspired confidence and trust among friends, family, and colleagues alike. His Christian faith was a guiding light, bringing him peace and shaping the values he passed down through generations.
John is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carol Pickle, his children; Wes Pickle (Tessa), Cara Aulman (Kris), Emily Garrison (Jordan), Larry Farris (Lisa), Tammy Weber (Todd) and Lisa Cox (J.D.), his brothers, Greg Pickle (Sherri) and his sister Sandra Juffer (Marvin), (19) grandchildren; Whitney Reeves (Chance), Jay Weber (Kelsey), Dallas Cox (Stormy), Ashley Weber (Cody), Bayleigh Free (Chris), John Louis Pickle (Zoie), Zack Free (Abbie), Faith Williams (A.J.) Anniston Whitfield (Sam), Lonnie Williams (Wendy), McKenzie Williams (Wesley), Ashtyn Farris, Triston Aulman, Haleigh Cox, Skylar Farris, Phoenix Garrison, Hawk Garrison, Falcon Garrison, Wren Garrison and (12) great-grandchildren; Ginny Claire Pickle, Frankie Gene Pickle, Joseph Brantley Whitfield, Wyatt Wren, Baby Williams, Braxton Reeves, Elania Reeves, Emma Owens, Oakleigh Free, Aya Weber, Asa Weber and Shepherd Cox.
John was preceded in death by his parents; Meredith Pickle Sr and Frances Pickle, his brother Meredith “Buddy" Pickle Jr. and his grandson Dalton Farris.
John Allen Pickle’s legacy is marked by his unwavering honesty, his strong and loving bonds with his family, his commitment to service—both to his country and his community—and his enduring faith. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
