Judy Kay Murphy Laughter, 77, a beloved and strong woman of faith, passed away on May 13, 2026, at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven, Mississippi. Born on February 12, 1949, in Hernando, MS, Judy lived a life marked by devotion to her family, deep compassion for others, and a loving spirit that touched all who knew her.
Judy was a retired property manager with many years of dedicated service at Fogelman Properties in Memphis, Tennessee. Throughout her career, she was respected for her professionalism and commitment, qualities that reflected her character in every aspect of her life. Known for placing the needs of others above her own, she exuded love and kindness, leaving a lasting impression on her family, friends, and community.
Judy's family was the cornerstone of her joy and purpose. She is survived by her devoted spouse, George Waldrop; her sons Warren Waldrop and Eric Waldrop, who is married to Olivia; and her siblings Jo Ann Gitter and her husband William, as well as Calvin Murphy and his wife Joan. Judy was also a beloved companion to Gracie, her faithful dog, and was surrounded by numerous nieces and nephews who held her in great affection.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband Donnie Laughter, her son Danny Joe Laughter, and her sisters Louise Allison, Pauline Johnson, and Lucille Dunlap. She also mourned the loss of her brothers James "Bo" Murphy, T.W. Murphy, and Ira "Sam" Murphy Jr., who now join her in eternal rest.
True to her nature, Judy wished for everyone to know she is now happy, free, and in Heaven with God. She felt profoundly blessed to have been part of her loving family and to have shared a life filled with love and faith.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Brantley Phillips Funeral Home, located at 2470 Hwy 51 S, Hernando, MS 38632. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the same location, offering family and friends an opportunity to celebrate Judy's remarkable life and legacy. Interment will be at Lebanon Cemetery in Olive Branch, MS.
In lieu of flowers Judy would like for you to consider donations to the Tunica Humane Society or an animal shelter of your choice.
Judy’s legacy of faith, love, and selflessness will forever remain a guiding light to those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered in hearts near and far.
