Lester Earl Holmes, 83 born on February 27, 1943, in Casper, Wyoming, passed away peacefully at home with his family on March 12, 2026. A man of notable character and dedication, Lester leaves behind a profound legacy marked by his commitment to family, service to his country, and professional achievements.
Lester proudly served his country as a United States Army Ranger, a testament to his courage and sense of duty. Following his military service, he applied his talents and intellect to a distinguished career as an engineer. He worked for Chromcraft and later for Parker Hannifin Corporation, where he was recognized for his inventive spirit, securing several patents for designs during his tenure. His professional accomplishments remain a significant part of the legacy he leaves.
Beyond his career, Lester held a deep love for fishing and model airplanes, pastimes that brought him peace and joy throughout his life. These hobbies reflected his meticulous nature and appreciation for both the outdoors and intricate craftsmanship.
Lester’s family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Genella Holmes, who stood by his side through all of life's chapters. His children—Tessa Pickle and her husband, Wes, along with sons Tony Holmes, Kevin Holmes and his wife Kim, and Jeffery Holmes—carry forward his memory and values. He also cherished his siblings: sister Sharron Eshelman, and brothers Gail Holmes, Melvin Holmes, Billy McDowell and his wife Mary Lynn, and Glenn McDowell and his wife Becky.
The joy he found in family extended to his grandchildren Mikki Holmes, Justin Holmes and his wife Jourdan, John Louis Pickle and his wife Zoie, and Anniston Whitfield and her husband Sam. He was a proud great-grandfather to Caden, Eli, AnnaGrace, Hadley, Ginny Claire, and Joseph Brantley, who were a source of great happiness and pride.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Holmes and Leola McDowell; brothers Douglas Holmes and Paul Blaise; and sister Brenda Sizemore. Their memories are held dearly alongside his.
A Memorial Gathering will be held to honor Lester’s life on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, with a Celebration of Life Memorial Service beginning at 3:00 PM, both taking place at Clear Creek Church of Christ, located at 296 Co Rd 301 in Corinth, Mississippi. Friends and family are invited to come together to remember and celebrate the remarkable life of Lester Earl Holmes.
Lester’s legacy is one of service, innovation, and unconditional love. His presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.
