Lionel Wade “Beau” Simmons passed away on October 27, 2026, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on November 21, 1973, in Memphis, Tennessee, and will be remembered as a devoted family man, a faithful friend, and a steady, respected presence in the lives of all who knew him.
Beau graduated from Southaven High School with the Class of 1992 and continued his education at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, Mississippi. He went on to build a long and honorable career, working nearly 30 years at BNSF Railway in Memphis as a Yard Master and Rail Conductor. In that work, he became well known and deeply respected by his coworkers, earning the regard that comes from dedication, dependability, and years of faithful service.
At the center of Beau’s life was the love he carried for his family. He loved all his girls and grandchildren dearly, and some of his happiest times were spent simply being with them—sharing time at home, taking trips, and enjoying vacations together. He was also an avid fan of Ole Miss sports, especially football, and found great joy in cheering on the teams he loved. His life was further shaped by his faith as a member of Grove Baptist Church in Coldwater, Mississippi.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 21 years, Mandy Simmons, the love of his life as their marriage meant so much to him. He also leaves behind his daughters, Madison Mallory and her husband Forrest, Mallori Kate Elkins and her husband Dalton, Peyton Johnson and her husband Grant, and Emmi Simmons. His love continues through his grandchildren, Easton, Hudson, Kollins, Reed, and Elisabeth, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Beau is also survived by his father, Tommy Simmons, and his mother, Millie Simmons.
Among those who mourn him is Barry Long, a close friend who was like a brother to him, as well as many cousins and friends whose lives were enriched by his presence. The circle of those who loved Beau is wide, and his memory will live on in the stories they share, the laughter they remember, and the deep affection he gave so freely.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Brantley Phillips Funeral Home, 2470 Hwy 51 S, Hernando, Mississippi 38632. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Brantley Phillips Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Hernando Memorial Park Cemetery, 2805 Magnolia Drive, Hernando, Mississippi 38632.
Beau’s life was marked by love, loyalty, hard work, and the quiet strength of a man who cherished his family above all else. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
