Marilyn Holmes Rowsey Canada, 84, passed away on November 10, 2025, in Hernando, MS.
The family will be receiving friends from 11 am to 1pm on November 14 at Hernando Methodist Church. The funeral will be held at 1:00 pm at the church with interment to follow at Hernando Memorial Park.
She was born on November 13, 1940, in Memphis, Tennessee to Hubert Holmes Rowsey and Emma Hustler Faulkner Rowsey. Growing up, she attended Courtland Public School and graduated from Batesville High School.
She attended Northwest Junior College for 2 years. She then attended The University of Mississippi and was a member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority, graduating with a degree in Home Economics. She began her career teaching Home Economics at Sheffield High School in Memphis.
She married Robert Franklin Canada of Coldwater in 1966. Marilyn left teaching and helped her husband in his local pharmacy for many years. She was a long-time member in the Hernando Methodist Church and Hernando Women’s Club.
She was predeceased by her parents, Hubert Rowsey and Emma Rowsey of Batesville, her sister Nancy Burford of Senatobia, and by Frank, her husband of 55 years. She is survived by her two sons, Robert Bradley Canada and Jason Holmes Canada, nephew Denny Canada (Lisa) of Easton, Connecticut, niece Ali Canada Lyden (John) of Trumbull, Connecticut, nephew Cecil Burford of Atlanta, Georgia and nephew Chris Burford (Bronwyn) of Madison, Mississippi.
In remembrance of Marilyn's life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Hernando Methodist Church or the Frank and Marilyn Scholarship Fund at Northwest Mississippi Community College.
