Mary Elizabeth Hawks Lentz

Mary Elizabeth Hawks Lentz, a beloved member of the Hernando community, passed away peacefully at her home on December 6, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on April 15, 1936, in Hernando, Mississippi, Mary lived a life marked by love, dedication, and service to her family and community.

Mary was a devoted homemaker who poured her heart into her family. Demonstrating her entrepreneurial spirit, she also ran a successful cleaning service, known for her meticulous attention to detail and commitment to satisfaction. Her career allowed her to touch the lives of many, instilling in her clients a sense of pride in their homes just as she did in her own.

An alumna of Greenleaf School House in Tate County, MS, Mary maintained a deep connection with her roots. She was a lifelong member of Greenleaf United Methodist Church, where she found fellowship and purpose within her community.

Mary had a particular passion for flowers, often tending to them with the same care she gave to her family. This love for nature was reflected in the beauty that surrounded her, creating a warm and inviting home for all who entered.

She is survived by her grandson, John Paul Lentz, and his wife Amanda, along with her great-grandchildren, Mason Cole Lentz and Jenna Brooke Whitehurst. Also cherishing her memory are her brother, William T. "Bill" Hawks, and his wife Robin. Mary's generous spirit and nurturing heart will be deeply missed by her family as well as her friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, George and Bettie Hawks; her son, Johnny Lentz; her sister, Marie Coleman; and her brother, Sonny Hawks. Each one contributed to shaping the woman Mary became and left an indelible mark on her life.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Brantley Phillips Funeral Home, located at 2470 Hwy 51 S, Hernando, MS. In these moments, family and friends will gather to honor the life of Mary Elizabeth Hawks Lentz, remembering the love she cultivated and the numerous lives she touched throughout her years.
