Michael Wayne Swatek

Michael Wayne Swatek, known to many as Mike, passed away on August 29, 2026, at his home in Byhalia, Mississippi. He was born on March 15, 1950, in Selma, Alabama. His life was marked by hard work, service to his country, and a deep love for horses.

Mike worked as a self-employed journeyman truck driver and also installed gutters for the Gutterman Co. in Southaven, Mississippi. He served his country proudly in the United States Army and the Mississippi Army National Guard. Beyond his work and military service, he was especially known for the joy he found in horses, loving the raising and training of them throughout his life. Those who knew him will remember that part of him so well, and it is fitting to think of his beloved horse Cricket waiting for one more ride.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Montgomery Swatek; his father, John Swatek; his mother, Frances Swatek; and his brother, John Swatek.

Mike leaves behind a family who will carry his memory forward with love. He is survived by his sons, Brian Swatek and his wife, Lori and Joshua Swatek and his wife, Ella. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Swatek and his wife, Vianna, and by his sister, Karen Swatek. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Lane Swatek, Tristan Swatek, TJ Maine, Morgan Hutsell and her husband, Brady, Tyler Swatek, Alexis Maine, Aiden Swatek, Katie Lynn Swatek, Bubba Maine, Addison Swatek, Amber Brown, Ashtyn Swatek, Katharina Swatek, and Stephen Smith. His legacy also continues in his great-grandchildren, Percy Hutsell and Adaline Hutsell. May his family find comfort in the many memories they shared with him and in the lasting love that remains.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Brantley Phillips Funeral Home, 2470 Hwy 51 S, Hernando, Mississippi 38632. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd, Memphis, Tennessee 38125.
