Nona Dell Woods, a devoted guidance counselor and cherished homemaker, passed away peacefully at her home on November 11, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on April 29, 1949, in Memphis, Tennessee, Dell spent her life dedicated to supporting and nurturing others, both in her professional career and in her personal life.
Dell’s journey of education began at Messick High School in Memphis, where she graduated with her peers. Following her passion for helping children, she became a guidance counselor at Horn Lake High School, where she made a significant impact on countless students’ lives. Her commitment to her profession was matched only by her dedication as a homemaker, where she created a warm and loving environment for her family.
Dell is survived by her beloved husband, John Stephens. She treasured her daughters, Amanda Fowler and her husband Paul of Nesbit, MS, and Amy Bryant and her husband Greg of Coldwater, MS and her son, David Woods and his wife Dawn of Hernando, MS. She was a proud grandmother to her grandchildren: Lynlee Woods, Jessica Woods, Skylar Woods, Jacob Bryant and his wife Jaylee, Zachary Bryant, and Avery James Fowler, who brought her immense joy and laughter throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Brother Buddy Woods and her parents, Erskine and Nona Pruitt. Their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved Nona.
A visitation will be held to honor Dell’s life on Monday, November 17, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Temple Baptist Church, located at 8432 Germantown Rd, Olive Branch, MS 38654. This will be followed by a memorial service beginning at 11:30 AM.
Nona Dell Woods leaves behind a legacy of kindness, support, and love that will be cherished by all who knew her. Her spirit will continue to inspire as she is remembered for the profound ways she touched the lives of others.
