Ramas Red, 90, a dedicated family man and respected member of his community, passed away on February 10, 2026, at his home surrounded by loved ones. Born on February 28, 1935, in Tate County, Mississippi, he lived a life rich in service and love.
Ramas served honorably in the United States Air Force, showcasing his commitment to his country. After his military service, he applied his skills as a bus mechanic, working at Northwest Junior College and Tate County Schools. His expertise and diligence not only contributed to the safe transportation of students but also engrained him deeply within the community fabric for many years.
A devout member of Flag Lake Baptist Church for over 30 years, Ramas found deep fulfillment in his faith and the relationships built within the congregation. His life revolved around his family and friends, and he cherished every moment spent with them, whether at gatherings or engaging in his favorite pastimes, such as bird hunting and raising chickens and cows.
Ramas is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Barbara Willard Red; his son Ralph Red and his wife Charlotte and daughter-in-law Teresa Red; sisters Barbara Red and Reatha Putt; and an adoring family of (5) grandchildren Randall Red, Whitney Red Neal, Joshua Andrew Red, Christopher James Red, Tiffany Red Ray, and (10) great grandchildren Rylee Red, Emery Red, Sara Kate Neal, David Red, Laine Brown, Silas Cockrell, Asher Red, Cameron Ray, Deckin Ray, and Triston Ray.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robbie and Frank Red; his son Jamie Earl Red; and siblings Lois "Buddy" Redd, James Earl Red, Albert Lee Redd, Sidney E. Red, Randolph Red, Cecil Red, Charles Redd, Wayne Redd, Leroy Red, Thomas Red, Lucile McPeak, Della Mae Carlisle, and Catherine Red White.
Ramas Red's legacy of love, service, and commitment will be celebrated on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Flag Lake Baptist Church in Sarah, Mississippi. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at Flag Lake Cemetery. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, as he leaves behind a strong tradition of family and faith.
