Rebecca Warren Helums, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many, passed away on July 5, 2026, at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis, TN. Born on February 3, 1944, in Memphis, Rebecca’s life was a radiant testament to kindness, faith, and devotion to family.
Rebecca pursued her education with dedication, earning an Associate's Degree from Northwest Mississippi Community College. Her commitment to personal growth was evident throughout her life, not only in academics but also in her professional endeavors. Rebecca worked as a cashier and stocker at Wal-Mart, where she was known for her friendly demeanor and hard-working spirit. Additionally, she applied her talents and creativity as a self-employed hairdresser, providing care and companionship to countless clients over the years.
Her commitment to her faith was unwavering. A devoted church member, Rebecca’s greatest joy was sharing her love for God with friends and family. She loved attending and singing in church and often found comfort and inspiration within the walls of her congregation. Rebecca’s voice and spirit touched many through church groups, and she especially cherished the times spent singing at nursing homes, bringing joy and light to residents through music and fellowship.
Rebecca’s legacy lives on through a large and loving family. She is survived by her devoted daughters Lisa Guagamuz, Anita Gatewood, Tonya Zuniga (Fausto), Misty Helums, and Crystal Helums (Ceasar Gonzalaus). Her sister, Elizabeth Zahedi, continues to honor her memory. Rebecca’s grandchildren Jonathan Gatewood (Ashley), Ashley Gatewood, Kevin Valenzula (Lexy), Erica Chacon (Carlos Zamoral), Liam Helums, Lilly Gonzales, Justin Zuniga, Aaron Helums, Eric Mendoza, Joshua Mendoza, and Stephanie Lozano brought her endless joy and pride. Her great-grandchildren—Trenton, Bianna, Ariel, Wesley, and Oakland Gatewood, as well as Kato Valenzula—will carry forward her spirit and the lessons she imparted.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Beatrice Warren; her brother, Sam Warren; her sister, Claudia Strevel; and the father of her children, Floyd Helums.
For the last two years, Rebecca resided at Landmark of Desoto in Horn Lake. Even in this chapter of her life, she continued to inspire those around her with her positivity and faith.
Those who knew Rebecca will remember her warmth, her enthusiastic conversations about faith, and her devotion to others' wellbeing. Her presence was a blessing, her encouragement unwavering, and her love enduring.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Brantley Phillips Funeral Home, 2470 Hwy 51 S, Hernando, MS. The funeral service will follow at noon at the same location. Interment will take place at Forest Hill Memorial Park - South, 2545 E Holmes Rd, Memphis, TN 38118.
Rebecca Warren Helums’s life was one of deep faith, hard work, and unconditional love for her family and community. Her legacy will live on in the many hearts she touched. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
