Shirley Louise George, age 79, of Coldwater, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on December 11, 2025. Born on October 4, 1946, in Harrisburg, Arkansas, Shirley was a proud graduate of East High School in Memphis, Tennessee. Her zest for life and her unwavering dedication to her family defined her legacy.
For many years, Shirley served as a dedicated mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, a job that allowed her to connect with her community and forge lasting relationships. Beyond her career, Shirley was a loving mother and grandmother, cherishing every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. She found great joy in camping trips with her husband, Herman George, and took pride in her garden, always enthusiastic about canning fruits and vegetables.
Shirley had a deep love for college football, cheering enthusiastically for the Memphis Tigers, and spent many evenings enjoying Hallmark movies, cooking shows, game shows, and Fox News. Her personality shone brightly through these simple pleasures, and her warmth touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
Among her proudest accomplishments was her role as the Director of Children's Church and Vacation Bible School, where she shared her faith and passion for teaching kids about Jesus. This commitment to instilling values in the next generation reflected the loving nature she exhibited as a devoted mother and grandmother.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Shelley White and her husband Craig of Olive Branch, MS, and Lorrie Lambert and her husband Jeff of Coldwater; her son, Randy George of Coldwater, MS; and her brother, Phil Wren and his wife Joan of Southaven, MS. She also leaves behind a loving son-in-law, Greg Hurt, and a cherished group of grandchildren: Scott George, Tiffany Busby and her husband Nick, Jordan Howle and her husband Jake, DJ Pryor, Dalton Hurt, Austin George, Zach Lambert and his wife Mabry, Tarin Hurt, Carly Lambert, Alli George, Mallory George, Sarah Lambert, and Nathan Hurt. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by her 16 great-grandchildren and 2 step-brothers, Kenny Watson and his wife Gale and Jimmy Watson and his wife Pam.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herman George, with whom she shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. She was also preceded by her daughter, Cindy Hurt; her father, Cletis Wren; and her mother, Mattie Rhoads.
A visitation to celebrate Shirley's life will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM at Mt Manna Baptist Church, located at 7805 Palestine Rd, Coldwater, MS 38618. Interment will be at Greenleaf Cemetery in Tate County.
Shirley Louise George will be dearly missed by her family and friends, who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
