Stephanie Leigh Short

Stephanie Leigh Short, 67, passed away on October 18, 2026, at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven, Mississippi.

Born on January 12, 1959, Stephanie lived a life marked by compassion, devotion, and quiet generosity. She graduated from Chamberlain-Hunt Academy in Port Gibson, Mississippi, with the Class of 1977, and continued her education at Delta State University. She went on to become a Registered Nurse, and throughout her career she faithfully cared for others, giving comfort and help to those who needed it most.

Stephanie found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. She loved to read, enjoyed going to the beach, and especially treasured time spent playing with her grandson. Her greatest happiness was her family. She was especially devoted to her daughter and to her grandson Noah, and she was lovingly known as “Noah’s Gaga,” a name that speaks for the special bond they shared.

She is survived by her daughter, Retha Short, and her grandson, Noah Short, who were the center of her world. She is also survived by her brother, Steve Short, niece Hannah Short and her cousins Susan, Evelyn, Deborah, Jimmy, and Bill, whose place in her extended family remained an important part of her life.

Stephanie was preceded in death by her father Steven Short Sr., her mother, Marion Short; and her her brother Johnny Holloway.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on November 6, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Brantley Phillips Funeral Home, 2470 Hwy 51 S, Hernando, MS 38632. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Stephanie Leigh Short will be remembered for her caring heart, her selfless spirit, and the deep love she gave to those around her. Her memory will live on in the family she cherished and in the many lives touched by her kindness.
