Sylvia Jean DeBerry, 87, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026, at the Landmark of Desoto nursing home in Horn Lake, Mississippi. Born on July 19, 1938, in Steele, Missouri, Sylvia’s life was marked by kindness, unwavering generosity, and a devotion to family and faith.
A graduate of Steele High School in Steele, Missouri, Sylvia devoted much of her career as a secretary for Calb Equipment before retiring. She was widely recognized for her warm spirit and selfless nature—always willing to do anything for anybody, embodying what it truly means to be kind and sweet-hearted.
Throughout her life, Sylvia found joy in spending time with her family and was member of Trinity Baptist Church in Eudora.
Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Riley, and her husband Jimmy of Lake Cormorant; her son-in-law Larry Manuel of Coldwater, Mississippi; and her sisters Marieda Holloway of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Dottie Rafnson of Blytheville, Arkansas. Her legacy lives on through her seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy DeBerry; her parents, Ollie and Orpha Mae Wilson; and her daughters, Lisa Simmons and Donna Manuel.
The family invites all who knew and loved Sylvia to attend visitation on Monday, June 22, 2026, beginning at 10:30 a.m., followed immediately by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Both will be held at Trinity Baptist Church in Eudora, located at 10715 Bluff Rd, Hernando, Mississippi, 38632. These services will offer an opportunity to honor her memory and celebrate a life beautifully lived.
Sylvia’s family kindly requests that memorials be sent directly to Trinity Baptist Church in Eudora as a lasting tribute to her faith and commitment to her church community.
Her enduring kindness, gentle spirit, and dedication to family and faith will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Sylvia Jean DeBerry’s life is a testament to the profound impact one person can have through love and compassion.
